The Open Championship 2025 — Schedule, Tickets, and More

The Open 2025 is commonly known as “The Open” or “British Open” and is run by the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and The R&A. It’s the oldest of golf’s four majors, first played in 1860. The 2025 edition will be the 153rd Open and will be held at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland. Legendary names like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Rory McIlroy, and Seve Ballesteros have lifted the Claret Jug. The format is four rounds (Thursday to Sunday) where every shot is affected by wind, rain, and coastal terrain. The winner is officially known as the “Champion Golfer of the Year.”

Where is the 2025 Open Championship?

The Open Golf Championship 2025 will happen at the Royal Portrush Golf Club, on the Dunluce Links course, in Portrush, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. This place is well-known for its striking coastal views, historic surroundings, and tough layout. The signature holes of the British Open Championship Venue are:

  • Hole 4, named "Fred Daly's," is a long, challenging par-4 that requires precision because of out-of-bounds areas and well-protected greens.

  • Hole 5, "White Rocks," is a stunning downhill par-4 with sea views and key risk-reward choices.

  • Hole 14, "Causeway," has an elevated green and deep bunkers that penalize poor second shots.

  • Hole 15, "Skerries," offers a wide fairway but a tricky uphill green.

  • The toughest hole is 16 which is called "Calamity Corner". It is a long par-3 that features a deep ravine on its left side. Hole 16 ranks among the most brutal holes in major championship golf often resulting in more bogeys than birdies.

  • Hole 17, known as "Purgatory," tests players with a hidden tee shot and a tricky green approach.

  • Hole 18, known as "Babington's," presents a tough final challenge. It has out-of-bounds on the left and deep sand traps that require accuracy when the stakes are high.

Sharp elevation changes, deep bunkers, and Atlantic winds will test every aspect of a player’s game. Wearing the right golf clothing will play a major role. Get polos that wick away sweat, hoodies made of fleece, and waterproof jackets. Don't forget hat or cap for rain, and gloves that work in any weather.
