The Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 — Dates, Field, and More

The Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 happens every year at Colonial Country Club. While it’s now called the Charles Schwab Challenge, its roots go back to 1946 when people called it the "Colonial National Invitation". This tournament launched the careers of many famous golfers like Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, and Jack Nicklaus. More recent winners like Jordan Spieth, Kevin Na, and Scottie Scheffler have also added to its legacy.

Where is the Charles Schwab Challenge Being Played?

The 2025 Charles Schwab Challenge will be held at the legendary Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. It’s a par-70 classic parkland design course with narrow fairways, bunkers, and water hazards that require accuracy and discipline. That’s why Colonial is known as “Hogan’s Alley”—a tribute to the great Ben Hogan, who won here five times.

This year, holes 3, 4, 5, 13, and 18 are the most challenging and decisive holes of the tournament. Hole 3 is the toughest and is the start of the “Horrible Horseshoe”. Hole 4 is one of the longest par 3s on tour, you need to commit to difficult long irons or hybrids. Hole 5 is the end of the Horseshoe and no less brutal.

Late May in Fort Worth, Texas, is hot and humid. In such conditions, lightweight and moisture-wicking golf clothing is the way to go. Performance polos and sleek golf trousers are the best for the Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 location. Caps or bucket hats must be used for sun protection and polarized sunglasses to reduce glare.

Heading Image Charles Schwab Challenge Format

The Charles Schwab Challenge 2025 is a stroke play PGA Tour event of 4 rounds, 18 holes, playing each on 4 days. This is an exclusive invitational event of around 120 players. Invitations go to recent Major winners, players who have been on recent Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup teams, top players in the FedExCup standings, and a few sponsor exemptions.

After 2 rounds, a cut is made and the top 65 (ties) play the final 2 rounds. If tied after 72 holes, the tournament goes to a sudden-death playoff, usually on the 18th hole until a winner is determined. The winner is the player with the lowest total score after 72 holes. Winner gets the trophy, prize money, and a classic car from Charles Schwab—a tradition that makes this tournament extra special.
