Ryder Cup 2025 — Location, Schedule, and Tickets

The Ryder Cup is the world’s biggest team golf tournament, played every two years between the United States and Europe. It was named after Englishman Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy. The competition started in 1927 at Worcester Country Club, Massachusetts (USA) when Great Britain & Ireland played the USA. In 1979, Seve Ballesteros became the first continental European player to represent Team Europe, making the competition much more interesting.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will start from September 26 to September 28, 2025. Team USA has 27 wins and Europe has 15 wins to date. In the 2025 event, Team Europe is the defending champion after the 2023 edition.

Ryder Cup 2025 Location

Bethpage Black Course, New York.

The 2025 Ryder Cup will be held at Bethpage Black Course in Bethpage State Park, Farmingdale, New York. This is the first time the Ryder Cup is being played in New York. Previously, it was held at Oak Hill Country Club (1995).

Bethpage Black is famous for its tough layout, strategically placed bunkers, and undulating greens. Hole 4 (Par 5) is long, and hole 5 (Par 4) is a dogleg right hole with a tight fairway and bunkers on both sides. The tricky hole is 10 (Par 4) with a narrow landing area and an elevated green. 17 (Par 3) is one of the iconic and toughest par-3s, with small greens guarded by bunkers.

September weather in New York is cold and unpredictable. Dress in layers, such as lightweight golf polos with midlayers or golf sweaters, and wear waterproof jackets for rainy conditions. Joggers or trousers should be breathable and stretchy for comfort and mobility. Golf caps or bucket hats are a must-have for head protection on the course.

2025 Ryder Cup Format

Scottie Scheffler and Ryder Cup 2023 Flag

The Ryder Cup is a match-play event with 28 matches over 3 days (Foursomes, Four-balls, and Singles). Day 1 (Friday) follows a morning session with 4 Foursomes (alternate shot) matches and an afternoon with 4 four-ball (better ball) matches. Day 2 (Saturday) follows a morning session with 4 Foursomes and an afternoon with 4 four-balls. Day 3 (Sunday) follows 12 singles matches where each player plays against one opponent.

Two players form one team and play one ball, taking alternate shots. One player tees off on the odd-numbered holes, the other on the even-numbered holes. The team that completes the hole in the fewest shots wins the hole. If the hole is tied, both teams get half a point.

Each player plays their own ball, and the team’s lowest score on each hole is used. If a European player has the lowest score, Europe wins that hole. If tied, both teams get half a point.

Each player plays against one opponent. The player with the lowest score on each hole wins that hole. If the hole is tied, it’s halved, and each team gets half a point.

On Day 1 and Day 2, 8 players play in each session, and the captain changes the line-up for each session. On Sunday (Singles), all 12 play. There are 28 points available. To win the Ryder Cup, a team must win 14½ points. If the score is 14-14, the defending champion keeps the cup.

Ryder Cup 2025 Prize Money

The Ryder Cup is traditionally a match-play, team-based event where players don’t get direct prize money. Each American player and captain (12 players and a captain) will get $500,000. Of that, $300,000 must go to a charity of their choice. The remaining $200,000 is for their personal use. This is the first time American players get personal benefit; only charity contributions were allowed before that.

European players get nothing. Their stance is that the Ryder Cup is about pride and honour, not money. Captains sometimes give gifts, for example, in 2018, Thomas Bjørn gave his winning team personalized Rolex watches. European players, such as Rory McIlroy and David Howell, say the Ryder Cup is about legacy and honour, not financial reward.
